A drug used to treat HIV-infected adults, adolescents and children over three years of age has been recalled.
The Irish Medicines Board confirmed this morning that the drug Viracept, which is an antiretroviral medicine, has been recalled after it was informed that some batches of the product were contaminated.
The contaminant in question is known to be harmful to DNA and the level of risk involved has yet to be established.
18 Irish HIV-infected patients are currently taking the drug.
Viracept has been withdrawn with immediate effect from European markets.
