Two missing climbers of Mt. Semeru found alive

MALANG, East Java (Antara): Two Semeru Mountain climbers who had been reported missing since last Wednesday were found Monday alive and have been evacuated from Besuk Tompe to Loji Air.

"Thank God, the two montaineers, namely Markus (28) and Riko (27), have been found alive although they are very weak for not having had any food for the last four days," head of Beuk Tompe National Park , Joko Prihantono, said when reached by phone on Monday.

He said Markus was found in the Besuk Tompe area, while Riko was found in Tawon Songo, the most dangerous place of the mountain's cold lava flow area.

He said the two apparently did not take the mountain's "legal" climbing track and got lost.

The two would be handed over to their families later on Monday.

The two were reportedly missing in the Cemoro Tunggal area when they climbed the mountain along with a ten-member climbing team from Jakarta-based Atmajaya University.
